Jean Baronas NEW YORK, September 20th, 2004 - Submissions addressing issues faced by intellectual property rights' holders and consumers are sought for a 'Workshop on Digital Rights Management (DRM) Impact on Consumer Communications.' To be held January 6, 2005 at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Las Vegas, Nevada, immediately before the 2005 International CES trade show sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), this Workshop will be part of the CCNC annual conference sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc). Intended to protect those holding intellectual property rights, DRM systems pose fascinating new twists to classical problems studied in cryptology and security, such as key management and access control. Research has proposed new technical mechanisms for DRM, for example, hash functions that make content identification possible. This Workshop will address such topics, and it will include both invited and submitted presentations in an interactive format to encourage in-depth discussions of technical, business and social aspects of DRM, targeted for both engineers and business people. The DRM Workshop Chair, Dr. Wenjun Zeng (zengw@missouri.edu), of the University of Missouri, and the Workshop's Technical Program Committee seek proposals by September 30 which should consist of an extended abstract on theoretical and practical aspect of DRM, as well as information about experimental studies of fielded systems. Sample topics include:
Submitters and future participants should submit their one-page extended abstract defining: (a.) a specific DRM problem and solution, (b.) the novelty of the DRM solution, (c.) related issues surrounding the DRM problem. The abstract, if accepted, would be used as the basis for a 20-30 minute Workshop presentation which will be made available online. No formal paper is required, however, participants are required to develop and submit presentations. Please submit your abstract in either .pdf™ or .ps™ formats by selecting CCNC'05 at http://edas.info! Please be sure to include a separate cover sheet showing the abstract's title, the author(s) name(s) and affiliation(s), and address(es) including e-mail, telephone, and fax for future correspondence.

Technical Program Committee: "This DRM Workshop will be an important forum for individuals involved in research, development, and the business of DRM systems," says Naohisa Ohta, Ph.D., CCNC 2005 General Chair and Research Director, Information Technologies Laboratories, Sony Corporation, Tokyo, Japan. "The Technical Program Committee plans a comprehensive and unforgettable event." Sony will be a Premier Patron of CCNC 2005. The complete CCNC 2005 details are available at http://www.ieee-ccnc.org. The IEEE Communications Society has over 60,000 members and is the second largest of IEEE's 38 technical societies. Founded in 1952, the IEEE Communications Society has become the major international forum for the exchange of ideas on communications and information networking. Accomodations, Travel and Visas Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE IEEE 'Consumer Communications and Networking Conference' To Take Place January 3 - 6, 2005 in Las Vegas Travel and Accommodation Information

Jean Baronas NEW YORK, September 20th, 2004 - The time has come to mark your calendar and to prepare to attend the upcoming IEEE Consumer Communications and Networking Conference (CCNC) 2005. Last year's CCNC attracted over 335 participants, and the ideas and directions taken for CCNC 2005 suggest that an even greater number of participants will attend CCNC 2005! IEEE's discounts and Travel Service can help with logistics, and the CCNC 2005 organizers strongly encourage early visa applications. The conference will take place at Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, from January 3 - 6, 2005 immediately before the 2005 International CES trade show sponsored by the Consumer Electronics Association, so one can easily attend both events. CCNC is an annual conference sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc). "CCNC 2005 will provide researchers, individuals involved with consumer electronics development, and those entrenched in the business of consumer communications and networking with state-of-the-art information and opportunities to the meet experts and visionaries," says Naohisa Ohta, Ph.D., CCNC 2005 General Chair and Research Director of Sony Corporation's Information Technologies Laboratories in Tokyo. Sony will be a Premier Patron of CCNC 2005. "The IEEE has established beneficial travel discounts for CCNC 2005 attendees." For example, CCNC 2005 attendees can request a discounted room rate of $149 U.S. dollars per room, per night (single or double occupancy) at Caesars Palace. Located at 3570 Las Vegas Boulevard in Las Vegas, Nevada, 'Caesars' can be reached by phone: +1 702-731-7110 (or, +1-800-634-666X ---- in Canada and the U.S. need the other number for toll free here); fax: +1 877-427-7243, or via: www.CaesarsPalace.com. The rate is subject to local (9%), state and federal taxes. With a maximum number of occupants per room of three adults, there is an additional $20.00 per night charge for any occupants in excess of two per room. Please use the group code, SCIEE5 to get the CCNC 2005 attendees rate. (Need to add information about the cut off date for the discount.) Participants staying at the Caesars Palace will directly help the IEEE Communications Society receive discounts on the CCNC 2005's meeting arrangements. CCNC 2005 attendees can book their flight arrangements through the IEEE's Travel Services which offers discounted airfares, travel counselors, 24-hour emergency service, passport/visa service, and automated fare quotes rates with many carriers. Discounts on car rentals are also available. For more information, please contact travel-team@ieee.org, or call +1 800 TRY IEEE (+1 800 879 4333) in the U.S. and Canada; +1 732-562-5387 elsewhere. Those needing a visa to enter the U.S. should apply as early as possible, since visa applications are subject to a greater scrutiny than in the past. For example, a personal appearance interview could be required as part of visa processing for some applicants, some may require additional screening, and others are advised to expect delays. Starting October 1, 2003, each Visa Waiver Program traveler must present a machine-readable passport (MRP) at the U.S. port of entry in order to enter the U.S. without a visa, otherwise a nonimmigrant visa is required. Additional information can be found on the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Consular Affairs Visa Services: http://travel.state.gov/nonimmigrantvisas.html Other CCNC 2005's details are available at http://www.ieee-ccnc.org. CCNC 2005's potential topics include ad-hoc and sensor networks, body and personal area networks, middleware, networked appliances, and peer-to-peer applications and services. The conference will also include a 'Workshop on Digital Rights Management (DRM) Impact on Consumer Communications.'
